Hollywoodin käsikirjoittajien lakko varjostaa yhä Oscar-gaalaa, mutta ehdokkaat viime vuoden parhaimpien elokuvien, roolien ja muiden saavutusten voittajiksi julkistettiin tänään Los Angelesissa. Mukana oli tuttuun tapaan myös yllätyksiä ja pettymyksiä.

Eniten ehdokkuuksia saivat Menetetty maa ja There Will Be Blood, jotka saivat molemmat peräti kahdeksan ehdokkuutta. Ennakkosuosikkina pidetty Sovitus sai seitsemän ehdokkuutta. Elokuva on ehdolla esimerkiksi parhaaksi elokuvaksi, parhaasta muokatusta käsikirjoituksesta ja puvustuksesta sekä leffan teinitähti Saoirse Ronan parhaasta naissivuosasta. Toinen seitsemään ehdokkuuten yltänyt oli jännityselokuva Michael Clayton.

Tärkeimmät neljä Oscar-sarjaa ovat paras mies- ja naisnäyttelijä, paras elokuva ja paras ohjaus. Parhaan elokuvan pystistä kisaavat Sovitus, Juno, Michael Clayton, Menetetty maa ja There Will Be Blood. Parhaasta ohjauksesta kisaavat puolestaan elokuvat There Will Blood, Menetetty maa, Michael Clayton, Juno ja The Diving Bell And The Butterfly.

Parhaan miespääosan pystin saajiksi ovat ehdolla George Clooney, Daniel Day-Lewis, Johnny Depp, Tommy Lee Jones ja Viggo Mortensen. Parhaasta naispääosasta tullaan puolestaan palkitsemaan Cate Blanchett, Julie Christie, Marion Cotillard, Laura Linney tai Ellen Page. Hieman yllättäen Sovitus-elokuvan Keira Knightley ja James McAvoy jäivät molemmat ilman ehdokkuuksia.
