Tutkijat kehittivät lähes sulamattoman mehujään

Mehujään syöminen voi olla hellepäivinä sotkuista puuhaa. Suoraan pakastimestakin otettu jääpuikko alkaa todennäköisesti jossain vaiheessa valua pitkin kättä ja vaatteita.

Brittiläien ruoka- ja designyhtiö Bombas and Parr on keksinyt ongelmaan yllättävän ratkaisun. Yritys on luonut mehujään, joka kestää korkeitakin lämpötiloja huomattavasti pidempään sulamatta.

Keksinnön taustalla on toisen maailmansodan aikaan kehitelty komposiittimateriaali, pykriitti. Se on hitaasti sulavaa pienen lämmönjohtavuuden ansiosta.

Bompas and Parrin mehujää kestää jopa tunnin ajan 24 asteen lämpötilassa. Uutustuotetta esiteltiin Iso-Britannian ruokamuseon SCOOP: A Wonderful Ice Cream World -jäätelönäyttelyssä.

THE WORLD'S FIRST NON-MELTING ICE LOLLY Bompas & Parr has pioneered the world's first non-melting ice lolly, launching just as the UK is experiencing some of the hottest days on record, and coinciding with SCOOP: A Wonderful Ice Cream World. For one day only at @bmof_london – August 22nd, Bompas & Parr will unveil its very own take on pykrete through the world's first non-melting ice lollies, replacing the sawdust and wood pulp in the pykrete recipe with edible fruit fibres. The inspiration behind Bompas & Parr's latest culinary invention is pykrete, a frozen composite material developed by Geoffrey Pyke during World War II as an alternative material to build an impervious structure that could form an immense floating runway in the middle of the ocean from which aircraft could make sorties in protection of Atlantic shipping convoys that were otherwise beyond the reach of land-based aircraft. . . #bompasandparr #pykrete #greatbritishinnovation #icelolly #melt #bmof_london #bmofscoop #britishsummer #londonweather #londonfoodie #foodielondon #foodinspiration #creativityisGREAT #britishdesign #britishinnovation
