Fitness-guru ei pidä sixpackia tärkeänä – vaatii liikaa uhrauksia

Chontel Duncan on kunto-ohjaaja ja fitness-tähti, jolta moni kysyy sosiaalisen median kautta neuvoja liikuntaan ja ruokavalioon liittyen. Eniten kysymyksiä nainen saa vatsalihaksiin liittyen. Moni tuntuu unelmoivan rautaisista vatsalihaksista, mutta Duncanin mukaan useiden kohdalla unelma voi olla melko epärealistinen.

Duncan haluaa ajatella, että mikä vain voi olla mahdollista saavuttaa mikäli ihminen haluaa nähdä paljon vaivaa unelmiensa eteen. Chontel Duncan pyytää kuitenkin seuraajiaan ja asiakkaitaan miettimään, että pystyvätkö he elämään mielekästä ja laadukasta elämää tavoitellessaan täydellisiä vatsalihaksia.

Osalla ihmisistä on niin hyvät geenit, että vatsalihakset tulevat helposti esiin. Toisilla ihmisillä rasva haluaa pitää kuitenkin niin tiukasti kiinni keskivartalosta, että lihasten esiin saamiseksi pitäisi tehdä todella kovasti töitä. Tämä vaatisi todella niukalla ruokavaliolla pysymistä, minkä vuoksi Duncan kehottaakin ihmisiä miettimään, onko unelmien vatsalihasten tavoittelu terveellinen tavoite. Tavoitteeksi kannattaisi ulkonäköön liittyvien asioiden sijaan ottaa lihasvoimaan ja terveyteen liittyviä parannuksia.

Today's thoughts…. Is it still possible to get the abs of your dreams? I commonly get asked what I do to maintain a defined core, how much do I need to consume, how much cardio should I do, how often should I train abs & how do I spot reduce just the fat around my midsection? While I like to believe anything is possible and yes to a degree this can be true, at what cost are we willing to sacrifice to achieve it? Are we genetically challenged creating an extreme barrier between what we have and what we want? My answer to a lot of those questions regarding this is… Will achieving this goal bring you optimum health and happiness? Or will it consume you, lead you to extreme measures, mass sacrifices and build an unhealthy relationship with your health & fitness journey? While I work incredibly hard for my health, I hold on tightly to my ”healthy balance”, to ensure I am not putting any heavy expectations on myself. I encourage everyone to do the same, change their goals from aesthetic goals to something realistic & maintainable. Everyone's ’healthy’ will look different, let our happiness be the star of the show.

Here where we live, it is starting to slowly go back to normal. I never thought I would be sad to send my boys back to school (even though I desperately needed the time to catch up on my work) and we are now in the process of finalising the steps to reopen our gym that Sam & I run & own. While it was devastating to close our business (which I chose not to focus my energy on so we could remain positive) I really enjoyed the uninterrupted valuable time our family got to spend together. Really looking forward though to a big catch up with my girlfriends, seeing all of our family, trips with friends and their kids and seeing our beautiful HIIT family and our team. What are you most excited about doing once things get back to normal?

Work hard and be proud of what you achieve! But don't wait until you’ve reached your goal to be proud of yourself. Be proud of every step you take towards reaching your goal. This is something that took a long time for me to feel comfortable with. Why? I was afraid of upsetting someone, being judged or having my happiness taken away from one silly comment. Being proud of yourself is such a beautiful internal feeling and way of living. I have worked incredibly hard, grown two healthy babies and while it was never easy (I don't want you to think I just clicked my fingers) it was something I achieved and I get great satisfaction in my work ethic both personally and professionally. I want to give women the confidence to be proud of everything you work for, no matter what that may look like for you! Supporting another’s success won’t ever dampen yours.
